Recent Arboriculture Projects

Below is a partial list of recently completed projects:

City of Whittier

City of WhittierThe City of Whittier contracted Ted Stamen to provide an Arborist's Report for thirteen (13) Ficus nitida trees located on Maybrook Avenue within the city.

The study focused on the compatibility of the trees with respect to the installation of a new sidewalk and provided a hazard risk assessment.

South Coast Plaza

South Coast PlazaThe South Coast Plaza's management office in Costa Mesa, California, contracted Ted's services for this world famous shopping center. The purpose of the contract was to recommend whether concrete electric light standards could be installed next to mature eucalyptus trees on a busy road within the shopping center.

The study concluded that cutting each tree's roots would create a tree stability problem and a major risk to people, cars and others.

South Coast Plaza has also used Ted's services several times to determine why major trees were dying, tree hazard risk assessment and other related topics.

Mission Viejo Country Club

Mission Viejo Country ClubThe Mission Viejo Country Club contracted consultant services to identify hazard trees on the golf course. The trees were ones that could cause property damage, injury or death.

The contract also included written detailed specifications for tree pruning, planting and removal. The specifications were mailed to several tree service contractors. In turn, Ted helped the Club select a qualified tree contractor and acted as an inspector for the tree work performed.

This project was selected as a feature article in the National Golf Course Superintendent Magazine.

City of Pasadena Power & Water Department

City of PasadenaTed conducts annual training and consulting for the City of Pasadena Water and Power Department.

His consultant contract is to train Water and Power Department's tree crews. Tree workers are individuals who prune trees over or around high tension electrical lines.

The training revolves around standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Society of Arboriculture Standards (ISA). These standards define pruning around electric lines, pruning technique, climbing techniques and safety training.

This past year, he also wrote an extensive Power Line Fire Prevention Manual for the City of Pasadena.
